Our Story

Alwande Ulwazi Community Advice Center (AUCAC) was born out of a vision to make a meaningful impact on rural communities in South Africa. Founded by Asisithi Zihlangu, a native of the rural areas of Engcobo, the organization officially took root in December 2019. AUCAC's genesis marked the beginning of a journey dedicated to advocating for human rights, justice, and socio-economic development in rural regions.

On 12 December 2019, AUCAC achieved formal recognition by registering as a Non-Profit Organization (NPO). This pivotal step solidified the organization's commitment to community service within the framework of a non-profit entity. The NPO status laid the foundation for structured operations, enhanced initiatives, and meaningful partnerships as AUCAC continued its mission to address human rights, gender-based violence, and community development

We initially operated in the virtual sphere, utilizing platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to establish connections, engage in dialogue, and provide crucial support to the community. This virtual presence laid the groundwork for the organization's outreach efforts and showcased its adaptability to the evolving landscape of digital communication.

Recognizing the importance of a tangible, physical presence, AUCAC opened its first office in Engcobo in May 2021. This marked a significant milestone, as the organization transitioned from virtual engagement to a physical space. The office became a hub for community engagement, consultations, and the implementation of AUCAC's diverse programs, reflecting a commitment to providing comprehensive support.

Building on the momentum gained in Engcobo, AUCAC strategically relocated its office to Ngqeleni in April 2022. This move represented a strategic decision, likely driven by a desire to better serve the target population, respond to community needs, or position the organization for increased impact. The relocation showcased AUCAC's adaptability and responsiveness to the dynamic needs of the communities it serves.
